Unsung Second Series 12-String Basses

In late 2002 or early 2003 Unsung redesigned their 12-string basses to give them a more standard looking body style. The elongated upper horn of first series 12’s was a constant target of criticism on bassist discussion boards, followed closely by negative comments about the overall appearance of the bass in general. The body design was changed to a pattern similar to Unsung’s USB-795 body style which had proven itself to be much more popular and attractive to potential buyers.

Brands from left to right: Career, Silver Star, Galveston, Carlo Robelli, Hense.

In addition to changing the body style, the neck on the second series 12-string basses was shortened from 27 to 24 frets. All of the other features remained unchanged from the first series including the model number. The necks all incorporate the bat-wing inlays. Each of the Second Series basses has the 5-knob active / passive electronics powered by a 9-volt battery, just like the Type 3 basses in the First Series. Except for the Galveston 12’s which were available in two finish colors, basses from all of the other brands were available only in a single finish.
