A two-part interview with original Cheap Trick drummer Bun E. Carlos (Brad Carlson) was included in Issues #55 and #56 of Ugly Things magazine. This magazine is published quarterly, and these issues are Winter 2020 and Spring 2021 respectively. While Issue #55 mentions the 12-string bass, the details are not included until the second part of the interview.

In the discussion of the 12-string bass, Carlson stated, “So they (Hamer) made him a 10-string bass, where it was two-two-three-and three in bass strings. And that’s what he used all the way through Budokan. Then after Budokan, he said, ‘Make me a freakin’ 12-string bass!’ They made one, and it was no problem at all. He got that probably in the spring of ‘78, maybe summer”.

Editor’s note: In actuality, Tom Petersson used a 12-string bass on the ‘At Budokan’ album and it is even pictured on the album cover.
