In addition to the four songs listed above, the 12-string bass was also used for the cyclical “ambient-noodling groove track” that opens and closes the album.

Jeff Ament's bass line on the tune “Jeremy” is considered by many players to be the “ultimate” 12-string bass riff. It is frequently incorrectly reported on discussion forums that this song was recorded with an 8-string bass.

The song ‘Jeremy’ was also released on a 3-song “Maxi Single” CD in 1992.

Jeff Ament stated in a Bass Player magazine interview, “'My Father's Son' has a 12-string bass - with a heavy, riffy song, I always want to bust that thing out because it's such a cool sound. It's almost like having a piano out there with it.”

The cover photo is the same one of Jeff Ament and his Hamer “Ament” B12A 12-string bass that was used in ads for SWR Engineering. Another photo of this bass is included in the case insert. The album consists of live versions of 20 songs, a number of which such as “Jeremy” include the 12.

Pearl Jam - Other Live Albums

There are a plethora of live Pearl Jam CDs on the market. Pearl Jam has always allowed fans to record their shows, as such the sound quality runs from good to awful. Also, since the year 2000 Pearl Jam has released over 13 million official bootleg recordings of their live shows so that fans can have quality recordings of the show they attended. It’s a pretty safe bet that any live CD that includes “Jeremy” includes the 12-string bass.
