An interview with King’s X bassist Doug Pinnick includes two photos of his custom Yamaha 12-string bass. When Pinnick is asked if he has any favorite basses he replies, “I often use Yamaha and ESP models for home use or on stage. But my real passion are models from the early 1960’s, which have an immense life of their own. You have to play really well and be dominant to become their master, because they are proud and stubborn. Apart from that, I'm still fascinated by these rarely built 12-string custom models from Hamer, from which you can get incredibly deep tones. If you want to give a song a dark drive, these comrades are the right ones.”

Included is a review of the Musicvox Reverse MI-5 bass. While the review is focused on the 4-string version, the 12-string bass is mentioned: “So if you can overlook the designs that take some getting used to (or if you take them to your heart - the BQ editorial staff), you will be rewarded with an extraordinary sound palette. And if the bassist is into eight- or even twelve-string basses, he can't get past Musicvox' amazing selection anyway.”
