Paul Gilbert, best known as the guitarist with the band Mr. Big, released this album of instrumental guitar tunes in 2006. On the companion instructional DVD he released for this album he stated in part, "This is the 12-string bass guitar, which inspired the song 'Twelve Twelve'. Pretty much I wrote the whole thing on this instrument. It's tuned just like a regular bass but it has three strings for each note - makes it sound quite big and you end up having to play very, very hard to get the notes out right. I use a lot of harmonics."

The liner notes include a drawing of Gilbert’s Hamer 12-string bass with the comments, “Upon finishing a previous record, I rewarded myself with the purchase of a 12-string bass guitar. This instrument has a huge headstock and a huge sound. It inspired this song, and after two days of trying, I finally played a guitar solo all the way through. And that’s the one I kept.”
