Bassist magazine was launched in early 1995. It was originally named Bassist and Bass Techniques magazine; it kept this name through the end of 1997, with the name being permanently shortened in January of 1998.

This issue includes an ad showing Doug Wimbish and his custom Warwick 12-string bass.

Two issues from 1995 included single-column ads for SWR Engineering that show Jeff Ament of Pearl Jam and his Hamer “Ament” B12A 12-string bass. This is a cropped version of the same photo that appeared in full-page SWR ads in Bass Player magazine in 1993 and 1994.

The King’s X discography included with the Doug Pinnick interview states, “Faith Hope Love: Doug’s 12 string Hamer bass dominates a prog sound scuppered by weedy production.”

A half-page interview with Tom Petersson discusses the 12: “Tom Petersson, who plays bass in the band, has a 12 string Chandler (San Francisco) bass. ‘It has four Rotosound bass guitar strings for each low note, and the other eight are guitar string gauges by D’Addario, which have to be long-scale to fit the neck.’ Tom has three radio sets to power his Godzilla of bass guitars live…”
