Tony Senatore
A 12 String Bass X-ploration DVD

Tony Senatore's DVD "A 12 String Bass X-ploration" was released just last month. It is the first commercially available instructional DVD that features the 12-string bass.

The DVD is divided into two roughly equal sections. The first part shows Tony playing his various basses in the studio on three songs from Tony's solo album Holyland: "Holyland", "Shapla" and "Life and Times". At times split screens show how all the parts of the songs fit together.

Other musicians appearing with Tony on this part are drummer Van Romaine, Manolo Badrena on percussion and Percy Jones on fretless bass.

The second part of the DVD is an interview with Tony. He covers the basics of how the 12-string bass is tuned, how he uses the stereo outputs on his 12 to send signals to multiple amps to get a big sound, he talks about his fretted and fretless Rothstein Andromeda 12's and then gives a demonstration of fingerstyle playing.

The total running time of this DVD is 36 minutes and I would like to have seen more! When I asked him about this Tony stated, "I actually edited out a lot of stuff. I wanted my DVD to be more about people finding their own way on the axe, with a push in the right direction from me (or, in the opposite direction from me)."

The DVD is well produced, it looks and sounds good and is a good addition to every musician's DVD collection. On a personal note, thanks to Tony for mentioning me and this website in the interview section and in the credits on the back cover!

The DVD is available for $15 postpaid to the USA / $20 with international shipping on Tony's website, http://www.senny.com
