Starfire 12-String Bass

The Starfire brand 12-string basses first appeared in October of 2006. They were initially only sold in the black finish, with a burst finish becoming available in early 2007. The Starfire was the first production 12-string bass to be strung through the body. It was also the first 12 to incorporate a rosewood bridge.

The Starfire 12-String Bass in the Black finish appeared first in late 2006.

The Sunburst finish Starfire 12 appeared in March of 2007.

The Tobacco Sunburst finish Starfire 12 appeared in late 2007.

The Starfire has two passive humbucker pickups,
a semi-hollow single-bound body and an F-hole.

The Starfire was the first production 12-string bass to be strung through the body.

Although the seller's eBay description states this bass had an "Adjustable" bridge, the adjustment is limited to a height adjustment. The bridge is rosewood with slots cut for the strings, rather than having metal string saddles. This type of bridge is usually only found on the cheapest acoustic guitars and offers no possibility of properly tuning the harmonics. See the Bridges page for more details.

The nut also appears to be made of wood, with oddly and irregularly positioned, improperly spaced slots cut for the strings. We wonder why wood was chosen for critical parts that will quickly wear and must support a significant amount of string tension.
