Musicvox 12-String Basses
Musicvox Guitars was founded in 1996 by Dr. Matt Eichen, an oral surgeon who sold guitars as a sideline business. The company was based out of Cherry Hill, New Jersey. All instruments were made in Korea and sales were factory direct to the consumer. The first Musicvox 12-string basses appeared in early 2000. Matt Eichen has stated that the Musicvox Space Cadet 12 was "the first production 12-string bass"; that statement completely ignores the Hamer models such as the B12L, the B12S and the B12A that were Hamer catalogue standards for many years before the Musicvox 12 was ever conceived. (For instance, see the 1995 Hamer Catalogue.)

Limited Edition Sea Foam Green Finish Space Cadet 12-String Bass

Musicvox referred to this as a Limited Edition bass but the only difference between this and the standard production models is the finish color. Only 10 were made, one of which is still in the possession of Musicvox founder Matt Eichen. It appears that the rationale behind this color was to be able to artificially inflate the retail selling price by offering a limited edition. The standard Space Cadet 12's carried a retail selling price of $799.00 but this color was offered at $2,001.00. Apparently this ploy was unsuccessful as most of the new-in-the-box Sea Foam Green basses were eventually sold on eBay by a secondary seller for under $700.00.

The Musicvox Guitars website has been dormant for a considerable period of time.
Numerous attempts to contact the
company and Matt Eichen via email over the past four years, by us and by others,
have gone unanswered so it is
presumed that no more 12-string basses will be available.
