Home-Built Custom 12-String Bass

Custom built by Matthias "12stringbassman"
Haydn in Germany in
2005.
Matthias states, "The
body shape is my own design."

|
This 12 is neck through, one-piece flamed maple. Ebony fingerboard, 34" long scale with 26 frets. The angled headstock is jointed to the neck with a dovetail groove and has a binding made of the same piece of ebony as the fingerboard. Electronics: There are two Kent Armstrong soap-bar humbuckers, balance and volume pots, and the two other pots are treble and bass tone controls. Matthias told us, "As a special feature there are two cigarette burns under the E-strings. After doing that I quit smoking... ;-)" |

The body
wings are made of American walnut and flamed maple.
The bass was
finished with linseed oil, tung oil, orange-oil and Carnauba wax.

The
piece of the fingerboard with frets # 23-26 is removable
with three screws
for access to
the two truss rod nuts.

The bridge and
tailpiece are self-made of 5mm-thick brass (approx. 7/32")
with a sustain block and 8 individual adjustable string saddles.

The XLR connector is used for powering the electronics from the preamp's power supply.

The headstock is a copy of the Dean
Rhapsody 12-string bass headstock.
"I
took the pic from your web site... :-)" writes Matthias.
Kluson tuning machines and a brass nut.
Thanks Matthias!
